Tervis Store Opening: Newport, R.I.

Newport, R.I., is home to America’s oldest tavern and our nation’s oldest lending library –- and now, our newest Tervis store!

Newport was founded in 1639. By the 1760s, it had become a major port in colonial America. (To this day, Newport County has one of America’s largest concentrations of colonial buildings.)

Newport began building its reputation as a summer resort destination in the years before the Civil War, when it hosted artists, scientists, educators,  theologians, architects and other luminaries. During the Gilded Age, Newport became the summer season hotspot for America’s wealthiest families, including the Vanderbilts, Astors and Whartons. Later, Newport would serve as the “Summer White House” retreat for Eisenhower and Kennedy.

Stop in to see us when you come to the City by the Sea to enjoy the Newport Jazz Festival, guided tours of the magnificent Newport Mansions on Bellevue Avenue, world-class sailing or the breathtaking scenery along the Ten Mile Drive.
