Stay Cool with Grapefruit Rum Punch
August 16 is National Rum Day — the perfect reason (as if we need one) to enjoy a cool cocktail on a sunny summer Saturday. What’s not to like about rum? It’s made from sugar cane. Pirates drank it (and smuggled it). It comes in coconut flavor. It’s tropical. It screams summer.
In honor of the day, let’s try a refreshing, citrusy punch, perfect for sipping poolside:
Grapefruit Rum Punch
- 6oz pink grapefruit juice
- 3oz (2 jiggers) light rum
- 1oz lime juice
- 1 tablespoon simple syrup (or honey)
- 3-4 mint sprigs
- Lime slices, for garnish
Muddle mint and simple syrup in your favorite shaker. Add ice and grapefruit juice, rum and lime juice. Shake well and strain over ice into your favorite goblet. Garnish with lime slices and enjoy responsibly.
