A ‘Smashing’ Pumpkin Milkshake

Pumpkin this. Pumpkin that. It’s fall – which means the pumpkins have taken over. Not just the cute pumpkin patches you see on the side of the road every mile. I’m talking about pumpkins, everywhere. No matter where you look there is something pumpkin themed. Whether it’s a pumpkin spice latte from your favorite chain coffee shop to pumpkin spice scented hair spray, we’re pretty much surrounded. If that isn’t already mildly concerning, I was at the store last week and they’ve somehow managed to get pumpkin scent into cat litter.  We’ve become so accustomed to pumpkins taking over from Labor Day until Thanksgiving and we’re practically immune to all of the fresh new products they come out with.

That being said, it is my opinion that pumpkin is best delivered in an edible (or drinkable) fashion. Give me a piece of pumpkin pie or a PSL any day of the week and I’ll be happy as a…jack o’ lantern. Get it?

Anyways, as if we haven’t already consumed enough pumpkin our fabulous friend Kelly Senyei at Just a Taste helped create an equally as fabulous recipe that is both, pumpkin flavored and drinkable.

Ladies and gentleman, I give to you:

A ‘Smashing’ Pumpkin Milkshake

Yield: 2 to 4 servings

5 cups vanilla ice cream
1 1/2 cups canned pumpkin purée
1 cup whole milk
1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/4 cup store-bought caramel sauce
1/2 cup finely crushed graham crackers
Whipped cream, for serving

Add the ice cream, pumpkin purée, milk and pumpkin pie spice to the blender. Blend until creamy.
Pour the caramel onto one plate then add the crushed graham crackers to a second plate.
Dip the rims of the glasses in the caramel sauce and then into the crushed graham crackers.
Pour the milkshake into the glasses then garnish with whipped cream and serve immediately.
