Watch, Drink and Be Merry

Our friends over at Just a Taste have shared a recipe to heat up your holiday celebrations. Watch the video, make a few snowmen, whip up a batch of cocoa and watch you friends and family enjoy.

Hot Cocoa with Marshmallow Snowmen

 Yield: 4 servings

4 cups milk (whole, reduced fat, non-fat or any combination)
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
5 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
12 marshmallows
Black candy melts or chocolate chips
Orange Candy Melts
Whipped cream, for serving

Equipment: Wooden skewers

In a medium sauce pot set over medium heat, whisk together the milk, cocoa powder, sugar and vanilla extract. Cook the cocoa, whisking constantly, until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is warm. Taste the cocoa and add additional sugar, as desired.

To make the marshmallow snowmen, arrange three marshmallows together at the top of each skewer. Melt the black candy melts per the package instructions (alternately, melt chocolate chips in the microwave) and transfer them to a piping bag. Snip off the tip from the bag and pipe eyes and a mouth on the top marshmallow and then pipe three buttons down the center of the second marshmallow. Melt the orange candy melts per the package instructions, transfer them to a piping bag, snip off the tip and pipe a nose on the top marshmallow. Allow the candy melts to cool until they’ve hardened.

When ready to serve, divide the hot cocoa among four tumblers, top it with whipped cream, then add a marshmallow snowman skewer to each cup and serve immediately.
